Amedeo Minghi

Amedeo Minghi's artistic history began in the early '60s when went for a singing audition at Ricordi's, one of the most important Italian record companies. The audition went well, and Amedeo Minghi cut a single entitled "Alla fine" (today very much sought by collectors). It could have been the beginning of a promising career if he had not been compelled to interrupt it. In fact it was not until 1977 that Amedeo Minghi attained his first true success with "L'immenso", a major hit of the '70s, with dozens of vocal and instrumental versions performed throughout the world. It seemed to be the beginning of a solid personal affirmation for the artist, but unfortunately it wasn't so. Even though Amedeo Minghi did gain great respect in the recording and publishing field, and was asked to compose for others, there were no requests for projects that would expose him as a sole performer of his own compositions. An attempt made in 1980 with CBS, did not work out.
This multinational record company, then American, now Japanese (Sony Music) had demanded an "easy listening" quality that indeed could not be found in his music.
In 1983, a meeting with Gaio Chiocchio, a young Roman poet, marked a moment of great importance in Minghi's artistic career. The elegant melodies merged in a natural and magical fusion with the verses of the poet. Their three-year-long collaboration (subsequently Minghi signed his compositions as author of both lyrics and music) produced some of the most beautiful pieces of the artist's vast repertoire, such as: "1950", "St. Michel", "Quando l'estate verrà", "Sognami", "Emanuela e io", "Cuore di pace", "Ladri di sole".
Unfortunately, Minghi's productive richness was not matched by an equivalent promotional effort by his record company. Consequently, his full success was once again postponed. Minghi, however, did not lose heart, and decided to take matters in his hands. He produced and published, at his expense, the album "SERENATA" and, subsequently, the album that was destined to finally promote him to the Olympus of the great: "LE NUVOLE E LA ROSA". In order to launch it, the artist designed a show that combined music and prose. Always at his expense in April of 1989, Amedeo rented, the "Teatro del Piccolo Eliseo", in Rome, and performed alternating songs played on the piano, with monologues.
The debut of "FORSE SI' MUSICALE" met with great enthusiasm and gave way to the beginning of a success that grew day by day. Comments of praise echoed within cities and quickly spread throughout the country. Finally there was a victory, the most beautiful personal victory of the artist. The months that followed, marked the beginning of a practically endless tour that ended three years later, and totaled over one million of spectators. It was highlighted by hits with hundreds of thousands of copies sold, such as "La vita mia", "Canzoni", and "Vattene amore" (written and produced by Amedeo for Mietta), "Nenè", and by unforgettable performances such as the concert at "SANTA MARIA IN TRASTEVERE" (attended by 40,000 people), the concerts at the "Teatro Sistina" and the concert "I RICORDI DEL CUORE" at the "Stadio Olimpico" which, for the first time, had opened its gates to pop music. The concert at the "Stadio Olimpico" was performed in front of 25,000 people with the accompaniment of a big orchestra of 40 musicians and a polyphonic choir, and was recorded on a video which sold innumerable copies. As a result of this huge success and a large number of requests, Amedeo Minghi was almost compelled to record again his old and new songs in two live albums: "La vita mia" and "Amedeo Minghi in concerto" plus the collection album "Nenè".
In addition to establishing himself as a vocalist and a composer, Minghi's ability to compose music of great descriptive power has enabled him to become also prolific in the writing and production of sound tracks for television, (8 TV fictions and the first screen play in several episodes entitled "EDERA" produced by Fininvest.)
Of particular importance are the sound tracks composed for the five series of "Fantaghirò" the fantasy TV movies with the actress Alessandra Martinez, broadcasted in 78 country where they are known as "The Cave of the Golden Rose". The character of the little princess Fantaghirò has also inspired "Fantaghirò & Fantaghirò", one of Minghi's most appreciated recitals. It was a combination of ballet, prose, music and poetry, and was staged in the major Italian theaters.
After a difficult beginning on a bumpy road, Minghi's professional career has been proceeding successfully, arriving smoothly to the mid 90s, brightened by many other outstanding hits such as "Come due soli in cielo", "Cantare è d'amore" and "Decenni". In September of 1997 the album, "Cantare è d'amore", was also released in South America. It was the first album released by the multi-national record company, EMI, and the 16th of the artist's long career. Minghi held three sold-out concerts in Sao Paulo, where the public and the media welcomed him with the high level of enthusiasm usually reserved to the world's greatest rock and pop stars. "Cantare è d'amore" was followed by the release of two other albums. The sale of more than 250,000 copies of these records brought the name of Amedeo Minghi to the top of the charts. In the meantime, also the markets in Spain and in Northern Europe, particularly in Holland, began to pay close attention to the artist.
The successful artistic journey of Amedeo Minghi celebrated the end of the millennium with "UN UOMO VENUTO DA LONTANO" and "GERUSALEMME". "UN UOMO VENUTO DA LONTANO" is a song dedicated to Pope John Paul II and was performed in his presence in the "aula PAOLO VI" at the Vatican. "GERUSALEMME" is a new piece composed upon commission from the Vatican on the occasion of the 'Jubilee 2000', and contained in the double CD "Minghi Studio Collection". This CD is the most complete work of Amedeo's repertoire, covering 26 years of music, from 1976 to the present time, in 29 remixed songs. Associated with "GERUSALEMME" is a special plan: the possibility of being performed in the HOLY LAND, near the city walls, together with a singer from Israel and one from Palestine, as a symbol of a true meeting among people.
Spring 2000: Amedeo Minghi participated in the Sanremo Song Festival by singing the song "Futuro come te" with Mariella Nava. Their artistic collaboration and equal input contributed to the production of a song that describes in a very joyful way the feelings and the technologies of the time in which we live.
Fall 2000: on October 20th, Minghi published his 20th album: "ANITA". This album was quite a novelty in that it contained the basis of a future project: a musical about the love story of ANITA and GIUSEPPE GARIBALDI, the greatest Italian love story ever told. This love story has been presented to the public in a long tour season during which Amedeo Minghi has recounted the story of Anita in more than 120 concerts, in theatres and outdoors. It has been a long season of performances that will come to a close with a concert in Germany, on October 31st, and a concert in Zurich on November 1st, 2002.
At the moment, Amedeo Minghi is in the process of composing two sound tracks for two other TV fictions. Meanwhile, the TV series "Terra Nostra 2 - Speranza", which airs on the Italian TV network Mediaset, has already in place its new musical theme sung by Amedeo Minghi.

In the future, Amedeo Minghi will be very much engaged by many different commitments, including European and South American tours. At the same time, he will be working on the scenario and the music for a two-part screen play about ANITA which will be produced by the Italian TV Network RAI.
Amedeo Minghi is therefore facing the new decade with renewed energy and determination, as strongly perceived in his 21st album. He undoubtedly continues to be the "paladin" of the Italian music tradition.
